    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

THE YOUNG PROFESSIONALS NETWORK OF THE URBAN LEAGUE OF EASTERN MASSACHUSETTS HOSTS FOURTH ANNUAL GET OUT THE VOTE COMMUNITY BBQ

Roxbury, MA – August 17, 2016. As the nation continues to grapple with social inequality, racial hostility, disparities in health, education and economic development, this election is of the upmost importance in preserving our voice. The first step to participating in democracy and the key to shaping the future of not only our state but also our country is voter registration.

This year, countless states have proposed new laws, if passed, would affect access to voter registration and ultimately, the ballot box in November. At the moment, we have 34 Senate and 435 House seats up for election, and Justice Scalia’s seat on the Supreme Court remains open.

The Young Professionals Network of the Urban League of Eastern Massachusetts (YPN-ULEM) understands what is at risk and the challenges we are facing this election season! On Saturday, September 17, 2016, from 12PM to 4PM YPN-ULEM will be hosting their fourth annual Get out the VOTE Community BBQ.

This year, YPN-ULEM has teamed up with multiple community groups and partners, including Opportunity Youth United, a grassroots movement shedding light on the effects of mass incarceration, and giving a voice to a community left in shambles.

All are welcome to attend this family-friendly event. This event is supported by the Urban League of Eastern Massachusetts and the Guild of the Urban League of Eastern Massachusetts.
