America has long struggled with its ability to prevent the disenfranchisement of citizens of color with regards to their right to vote. Exclusionary practices ranging from poll taxes to present day restrictive voter ID laws has shown the consistent repression of the minority vote. History has shown that certain groups of people have faced constant obstacles, specifically when they have exercised their right to participate in the political process. In today’s New Jim Crow Era, many Prosecutors are leaning towards punitive rather than restorative justice, the choice you make at the poll decides the next Sheriff, the next District Attorney, and who appoints your Judges and the Parole Board. Join YPN-ULEM as we examine the deep ties YOUR vote has to the criminal justice system. Program: 6:00 pm – 6:30 pm Networking 6:30 pm – 7:00 pm Business Meeting 7:00 pm – 8:15 pm Professional/Personal Development Presentation/Discussion Monthly general body meetings provide the ability for our members, guests and sponsors to learn about what YPN-ULEM officers and committees have been doing for the previous month during our business meeting. Once the business meeting section is adjourned we begin our professional development discussion where a pre-selected committee will present a topic and speaker(s) to meeting participants. All meetings begin with a networking portion where participants have an opportunity to network with other participants while enjoying light refreshments. These meetings happen every second Thursday of the month unless otherwise noted.Don't Be StuckOnReplay: Connecting Elections to Mass Incarceration
